I recently did a video on the Anastasia Contour Kit ($40, Sephora). I decided to delay the post a little on purpose because I wanted to give myself another day or so of trial before I decided on the final verdict.
This palette contains 6 removable shades: 3 contour & 3 highlight. While the texture quality of all the shades is there, this just isn’t something I feel like the average Joe will get full use out of. For really pale skins, the highlights barely show up (which isn’t terribly problematic for me, but still a bummer) & the darkest contour shade might never get used.
I feel like the shades are right in terms of contour – very neutral and realistic. Though I think this would be a great product for a budding pro or to have in a kit, I am neither of those. The packaging seemed fine to me initially, but it is a little flimsy for the price and well-loved palettes might see the wear. Plus, it has no mirror.
I think the bottom line is I don’t understand the hype. I think there are lots of other shades that will work and I’d rather have the 1 contour shade and the 1 highlight shade for me than a palette of 6 that I don’t use it all. I rarely return items and I do love this for my eyes, but I think there’s just too many other items I want right now that I’ll love the whole thing to justify keeping.
Don’t get me wrong, this isn’t bad quality and I think pros or contour lovers will… love. It’s a nice kit but I just… can’t. I wanted to love and it’s just not there for me. I know I don’t agree with everyone else, but it’s true. I searched up and down, high & low… so this is a disappointment that I probably could have avoided by swatching. I just got really, really excited. You know the drill? I feel like this will quickly end up in the corner of my vanity to be rarely touched and unloved. I’d rather just not deal with that right now!
