I’m not sure why every beauty vlogger puts some sort of “this is disgusting” or “tmi” disclaimer on personal products. We all use them. I’m going to talk about deodorant… and I don’t think it’s odd or strange at all. I am actually hoping that you wear deodorant and if you don’t, after this post you highly think about that decision.
Today I’m talking about Schmidt’s Bergamot + Lime Deodorant. It retails for $9 and you can buy it from Eco Diva Beauty or your local health food store (I think). It comes in a variety of flavors including Cedarwood + Juniper, Fragrance Free, Lavender + Sage & Ylang-Ylang + Calendula. Honestly, all sounded good to me, so I just went for Bergamot + Lime. It smells like a very limey margarita. I actually really love it for the summertime.
I have been looking for a natural deodorant for some time now. I’ve tried Lavanila, Soapwalla, Lush, Toms, etc. I’ve come to the conclusion that those that like pretty much any of those don’t sweat or do sweat and don’t care. They do not claim to be antiperspirants so I guess I can’t really blame them, but I stunk after a few hours with each of those.
I am actually one of those people who isn’t weird about chemicals – pretty certain there’s no scholarly, peer reviewed evidence that my Dove deodorant is killing me. Though a more natural route certainly couldn’t hurt. A bigger reason why I am looking to go more natural is other deodorants are causing either darker underarms or irritations. I’ve actually grown into many allergies since I moved to Indiana (thanks, Indiana!) and my skin has become incredibly sensitive, particularly on my body. Hives, itching…. you name it. So I have been trying things that are more like balms (which natural deodorants seem to be) that are more soothing and have characteristics of more like applying a lotion.
So enter Schmidt’s. It’s a waxy-balm like texture that comes with a spatula to scoop out product. You do have to apply it directly to your underarms, but I suppose that is what washing your hands is all about. So far, I have been really impressed. I won’t lie, some of my recent ventures with other natural deodorants has been such a fail I refuse to wear this to something like work without testing first (and it’s 80+ degrees F with high humidity, so don’t hate!). But what testing I have done on it has been really encouraging. It doesn’t seem to irritate and it seems to actually protect me against sweating. It’s one of the few that claims to protect against wetness and it seems to work fairly good so far. It contains vitamin E which really seems to be helping me with the itching. So far I’m really happy and encouraged.
I honestly don’t think the smell gets in the way of any perfume, even though strong, because I can’t really smell it unless I’m sniffing myself… you know? Though I suppose if you just don’t want to have any fun or adventure in your life, the fragrance free will be a good option. Has anyone tried this? I think minus the application (I like a stick not even really for ease of application but because it’s quicker), this product is serving me well and I really don’t have too many complaints.
