The Look: Wedding Inspired

I partnered with a wedding site, Loverly, to gain inspiration for this post. They gave me complete creative freedom and I’m not being compensated…. so what the heck is this post all about?! Loverly contacted me and said they are a site dedicated to real weddings and inspiration from real people. They gave me pictures of 3 dresses and said to create a look inspired by a dress. That’s it! I thought it would be fun to do a post related to an inspiration. I also did a Get Ready With Me video (below) showing all the products. The only thing I changed was the lip color! Check out more gorgeous dresses from loverly!!!

They sent me 3 dresses and I choose the one above as my inspiration. Purple is probably my favorite color so it’s no wonder that I chose this dress! Though I will say they also sent a photo of a really cool vintage inspired dress and I may or may not be working on a more flawless face and red lip featuring Chanel’s pirate as I was inspired by both! But back to this dress… I think if I could re-do the look I would have added some more concealer or a brightening product under the eye to really create a flawless face, but I love the bold lip with a simple face because I feel like this dress is really simple, yet bold!

I chose to do an everyday look and just amp it up with a bold lip. I loved how this dress was simple on top and BAM on the bottom. I did a look you could wear everyday and just add a bold lip. I think this shows you can have a statement look to match a statement dress and you don’t need to be a makeup artist to do that! Or take an everyday routine and make it a wedding look. I don’t think you need to overthink your makeup. If you want, you can keep it simple & let a dress like this shine through.

Prepping your skin is probably one of the most important things you can do if you are doing your own wedding makeup. I spritzed One Love Organics Vitamin D Moisture Mist to add a little hydration and plump my skin. This is also very calming and has a time-release formula that’s good for all skin types. You will use this long after your wedding day. Even if you are having your makeup done, this is a great prep item to keep powder face away or apply prior to the artist doing your face. I chose Armani’s Fluid Master Primer because it helps any foundation last all day on me & is really lightweight (if you have seriously oily skin, go for Becca Ever-Matte Primer). Every single bride or person needs Nars Smudge Proof Eye Base. This stuff is the bomb.com and works for just about everyone! I did apply the By Terry Baume de Rose lip balm, but you don’t need this stuff. I got a sample and enjoy using and think it’s perfect as a lip primer because it’s not super shiny or slick, but really hydrates the lips. Make sure you use something so lip products don’t look flaky. If it has too much slip, your lipstick will fade more quickly so I do recommend some sort of balm. I typically apply something like Nars Rue Bonaparte in the lower waterline to cancel out any redness.

For the eyes I kept it pretty simple because I wanted it that way! You can amp it up using the Chanel Iris eyeliner, go deeper with a different palette… whatever floats your boat! I used Chanel quad in Tisse Mademoiselle for a very natural, easy eye. I also chose Chanel Iris eyeliner (which is waterproof) to put on top of MAC Grey Utility. That added a peek of purple without going “woah! purple eye! purple lip!” You can defiantly switch it up and use as a base, all over the lid, etc. I used Grey Utility as an upper waterline eyeliner using short strokes. I used Chanel le Volume mascara which is my favorite any day!

Two of my favorite products – that I for sure recommend – are the Armani Corrector (number 1 or 2 depending on skin tone) & Cle de Peau Concealer. Both of these are undereye saviors for me. The corrector does just that and doesn’t budge or settle. Same thing with the concealer. It’s VERY concentrated. A tube lasts me for about a year. So, yes, it’s pricy but such a great concealer. You can use on your face if you want as well. They have added to the shade range recently if you are interested. The other products are just some that I picked, but aren’t really necessities. I used the YSL Fusion Ink foundation, but it’s a little light coverage if you want a really flawless finish. If you are looking for a foundation, I might just do a separate post on all my picks because it all very much depends on your skin, what you’re looking for, etc. I’d suggest something with little to no SPF to prevent flashback. The higher the SPF, the more likely you will get a white cast from flash photography. I added Rouge Bunny Rouge bronzer for a slight glow. I wouldn’t overdo the bronzer – you want enough to add some life. Glo Minerals blush in Petal was my pick for a pretty flush without shimmer that won’t overshadow any bright lip or bold eye. I also used the Anastasia Brow Wiz in caramel. She is the queen of brows!

The lips I did in my video are the products pictured above. On my face for the inspired look was Nars Audacious Lipstick in Angela. This is such a statement, but it’s pigmented, doesn’t require a liner and lasts a long time. It doesn’t dry my lips out (particularly if a balm is underneath). Instead of a stain or a gloss, something like this is really bold and fun. As weird as it sounds, you can also apply for getting ready photos, switch to a nude for the ceremony (if you’re afraid of lipstick on new hubby) and apply again for photos after the ceremony. It’s a sneaky way to go bold without worrying all night. It’s really only those photos that matter anyway! For the video, I did a nude lip with Bridgette from Nars. I applied Burberry Rosewood lip liner and Trish McEvoy Sexy Nude gloss.

Tools I think will very depending on a lot of different things but I’d recommend the following: beauty blender (note: I don’t apply my foundation with it, I use to roll on my face and set foundation or powder), any type of fluffy brush for blending eyeshadows & an eyelash curler. Also note I didn’t wet my beauty blender with water, I dampen it with a toner.

Hope you enjoyed! I loved being inspired by something so I think I might pick another dress and do a full-out glam look. What do you think?
